Steve Lawson WTF? How was this not in my Bandcamp collection. I must've bought it from a different account before! Anyway, I've been listening to this since before it was released and a decade on it's still a spectacularly perfect collection of songs. Sounds like a greatest hits album. Literally any track could be chosen as my 'favourite'. Truly astonishing. Favorite track: Coast Is Clear.

Erik Johansson Piercing vocals, it was a must buy after a few minutes of listening. Favorite track: Tennessee.

Maarten Jan Great, the words that come to mind: convincing, musical and just a solid performance Favorite track: Best Laid Plans.

Run 04:35
Run: A stone skims the stream, The rise and fall, the river rolls, I turn and heaven's here, And to the ocean its only flood wall spray, Where starlings swirl round an ice cream girl, It's like I've found my way, Where I can breathe, And take a path that leads, Down through the trees, Catch Autumn leaves until I'm remedied, Run, Run like you've become the wind, Come run rings around my heart, On a melody that breezes in, If there's chaos where there should be calm Find comfort in the false alarm, Oh and run like the wind. The smoke that rose from sands these hopeful hands with best laid plans in prayer for a lucky year And as orange sets, Around a jumbo jet And paints a silhouette On the barefoot tread, The sound of a shifting gear. RPT PRE & CHORUS But hold that stone, It's got problems of its own, It's got history and a chequered flight, But stones hold schemes, It doesn't matter where they've been, It's the places that they're going and the way that they attract the light. RPT CHORUS Oh and run like the wind, Oh and run like the wind, Oh and run like the wind, Like the wind...

Best Laid Plans: There’s two reasons, Two reasons why we’re never gonna get too far, I’m a book full of feelings and of open revealings, And you’re turning down the corners, So I’m leaving, Yeah I’m leaving with the shirt that I’ve got on my back, And in exchange for a favour, In shoes of a stranger, You complain that they don’t come in black, I wanna catch the sun, But I’m not the only one with half a phone number on the back of my hand, And the best laid plans, I wanna catch the sun but I’m not the only one, Oh I. There’s 4200 miles to make a chance, And I’ve had 12000 days to get it right. Still I wanna catch the sun, But I’m not the only one with half a phone number on the back of my hand, And the best laid plans, I wanna catch the sun but I’m not the only one, Oh I. Easy come and easy go’s not working, Rolled up sleeves serves tea with sympathy, Out on a melancholy road, I’ve never felt so far from home, Do I save my soul or leave without speaking I wanna catch the sun, But I’m not the only one with half a phone number on the back of my hand, And the best laid plans, The best laid plans, I wanna catch the sun but I’m not the only one, Oh I.

Warm Hands, Cold Heart: Cold, cold, cold, Oh it’s cold inside your heart, With veins that flow to hands that are trying to cool down, Still you got me, Ooh and yeah you hold, you’re holding, holding, But I’m pulling off your gloves, It takes more than clumsy cooling, While I’m growing wise to fooling, Still you got me, Take this heart off my sleeve, Warm it up, if you think it’s looking empty, Find a scar, carefully, Love has left it’s mark, With warm hands and a cold heart, It’s cold... There’s lines, crossing lines, all the time, In the cracks across my palms, Trace fatalistic faultlines, In the faith there’s always sunshine, Yeah you got me, Take this heart off my sleeve, Warm it up, if you think it’s looking empty, Find a scar, carefully, Love has left it’s mark, With warm hands and a cold heart, It’s cold... We don’t need to go the distance or count the centimetres to see, That you’ve already got the measure of me, And I don’t have to see your palms to know they're hotter than the sun, Still you got me, Take this heart off my sleeve, Warm it up, if you think it’s looking empty, Find a scar, carefully, Love has left it’s mark, With warm hands and a cold heart, It’s cold...

Tennessee 03:14
Tennessee I can hear the same old boots on Broadway, They’re knocking out the same old songs downtown, A melody that sings out that she’s gonna leave him, And if it strikes a chord you’d better give a dollar from your hand, Somewhere on the way down Music Highway, Somewhere on a lane in Tennessee, It almost feels familiar but like a disconnected postcard, I’ve got the habits of an alien but they’re comfortable to me, Pick me up and take me, Back to Tennessee, Just head down 40 til you hit that Nashville sky, Pick me up and take me, Back to Tennessee, I could see from Tennessee that I loved you, I’m not about to drown myself in bourbon, But I thought I saw you kicking round the thrift stores today, The echo is a drum beat where the absence grows in fondness, I know the rhythm of your heartbeat in this Music City place, Pick me up and take me, Back to Tennessee, Just head down 40 til you hit that Nashville sky, Pick me up and take me, Back to Tennessee, I could see from Tennessee that I loved you, *guitar solo* Pick me up and take me, Back to Tennessee, Just head down 40 til you hit that Nashville sky, Pick me up and take me, Back to Tennessee, cos I could see from Tennessee that I loved you, yeah I could see from Tennessee that I loved you, I could see from Tennessee I loved you,

Northern Lights: Funny is the time of year Nobody’s familiar here, No surprise I’ve lost my keys, I made a circle in a rowing boat, A broken compass stuck in my throat, Oh I’m all at sea. But maybe it’s the big test, Pack everything into a box, If there’s grace left, We’ll see the Northern Light show, and I'll tell you reasons why I play the clown, The heroes only ever go and let you down, We’ll see the Northern Light show, but the colour’s fading out too fast, Superman was only ever made of glass, We’ll see the Northern Light show, And see what the light shows... I’m tying down all I can find, Holding on to nursery rhymes, To the string that marked out my tracks, It’s true that there’s been harder knocks, But it seems to me the mornings’ clock strikes one with all that I lack, Time for me to confess, To admit I tried to catch a glimpse of what grace was left, And we’ll see the Northern Lights show, I'll tell you reasons why I play the clown, The heroes only ever go and let you down, We’ll see the Northern Lights show, but the colour’s fading out too fast, Superman was only ever made of glass, We’ll see the Northern Light show, And its all I can do, To save us from the undeniable truth, Be brave enough to fall away to grow new, The everything in the light show... The light show... So hold on to your tears, There’s nothing to fear in the light show, We’ll see the Northern Lights show, I'll tell you reasons why I play the clown, The heroes only ever go and let you down, We’ll see the Northern Lights show, but the colour’s fading out too fast, Superman was only ever made of glass, We’ll see the Northern Light show, I'll tell you reasons why I play the clown, The heroes only ever go and let you down, We’ll see the Northern Light show, And we’ll see what the light shows, We’ll see the Northern Light show, Forget about your tears in the light show, In the light show...

Cold Turkey 03:45
Cold Turkey You are my only vice, But you are the hand that rocks the cradle so I sleep tight, You come with a warning call, But you’re stitching me a safety net and here I come I fall, Oh won’t you hold me wait for the morning time? Throw your arms around it makes the craving stop, They stop, They stop, Feels like I’m going Cold Turkey, You’ll see when I get my fix, Of that Kentucky whiskey, It’s like I’m addicted, Just when I think I got it all worked out, I get a taste that I can’t figure out, Like I’m going Cold Turkey, Like I’m going Cold Turkey over you, I am out of my mind, You give me a comfort blanket with a map on the other side, I cannot punch my way out, Of a paper bag with lines to iron out, Oh won’t you hold me wait for the morning chimes? Throw your arms around it makes the craving stop, They stop, They stop.. It’s like I’m going Cold Turkey, You’ll see when I get my fix, Of that Kentucky whiskey, It’s like I’m addicted, Just when I think I got it all worked out, I get a taste that I can’t figure out, Like I’m going Cold Turkey, Like I’m going Cold Turkey over you, And there’s two mugs on the draining board, I’m left here to work it out, Two mugs on the draining board, The penny drops I’m on the money now, I’m on the money now, Feels like I’m going Cold Turkey, You’ll see when I get my fix, Of that Kentucky whiskey, It’s like I’m addicted, Just when I think I got it all worked out, I get a taste that I can’t figure out, Like I’m going Cold Turkey, Like I’m going Cold Turkey, Like I’m going Cold Turkey over you,

Fire 03:13
Fire: The fire returned too soon, Swept through the room, Carving and burning all afternoon, The fire takes me aside, And whispers ‘if you’ve got time, then it’s ready to do or to die’, And something ignites... Fire, you are on the run it’s your turn, Fire, you pull just like a river when you push away from me, I know that adding fuel to a fire’s like putting out a flame with a smoking gun, There’s a fire, there’s a fire, there’s a fire... A fire Troublesome flames suffice, While feigning surprise, Throwaway glances hold sparks that fly, Yeah fire where do I begin? When I’m a moth to the light you bring, But I found a new place to hide, Until something subsides...
Fire, I am on the run it’s my turn, Fire, I push just like a river when you pull away from me, I know that adding fuel to a fire’s like putting out a flame with a smoking gun, There’s a fire, there’s a fire, there’s a fire... A fire Just because there’s fire surrounding, And the heat is on to stay, I don’t want to try to get away, I can build a fire around me, It could be that we are cut the same, Praying for phoenix in these flames,

Coast Is Clear Someone pull the mainsail, Love will find a way, Not that I remember it, I don’t think I remember it, A call down from the birds nest, That says there’s danger on the way, I think I know a hideaway, Yeah I think I know a hideaway, Oh.... Can you get me out of here when the coast is clear? When you say the water’s safe, Do you mean the pirates got away? Get me out of here, when the coast is clear, The coast is clear, And am I brave enough to drop my anchor here? Or will the fear come and bring me down? Another rope to wrap around, And if I summon up the courage, And conjure ways to cut some slack, I’ve got my hammer and a piggy bank, Now I’m shooting fishes in a tank, Oh Can you get me out of here when the coast is clear? When you say the water’s safe, Do you mean the pirates got away? Get me out of here, when the coast is clear, The coast is clear, Aah - Clear - Aah - Clear.... Get me out of here when the coast is clear? When you say the water’s safe, Do you mean the pirates got away? Get me out of here, when the coast is clear, The coast is clear, The coast is clear, The coast is clear....

Out Of Time 03:35
Out Of Time: I learned to love So I could lay defenses down, But did the minute hand carry away, My will to forgive, Can I climb above? Can I try to find a way, As the night invites doubt to my mind, You don’t get what you give, No ones invincible, Everyone lies, Wide eyed and vulnerable, til we hear the cries What if we’re out of time and I’m not the love that you’d hope to find? Seems you lost a reason and i lost my rhyme, No shame in those bells ringing, It’s just that we’re out of time, *Guitar Solo* What if we’re out of time and I’m not the love that you’d hope to find? Seems that you lost a reason and I lost my rhyme, No shame in those bells ringing, It’s just that we’re out of time, No shame in those bells ringing, It’s just that we’re out of time.

about

Written on various roads.

'All At Sea' is currently in the final stages of production.

Recorded and nurtured over three days in the 'Magic Garden Studio' in Wolverhampton with new friends Gavin Monaghan (who's worked with Scott Matthews, Robert Plant, Paulo Nutini and Nizlopi...amongst others) and his trusty engineer Joe Murray.

My dear friend, the brilliant Joe Jackson (no not 'that Joe Jackson') joins in on Double Bass for a few songs.

But for the most part I am joined by Fiddes Smith on this record. A man with many strings and many frets. A great musician that I am lucky to have found.

'All At Sea' is a collection of nine carefully crafted songs which show a new direction for me. I believe it to be a more intimate album, it is recorded live with no click track, no headphones and with minimal overdubs.

For the main part it is just two people sat in a room playing songs together, sometimes it's just me on my own. I hope you'll enjoy it.

With original, custom made artwork by Amoret Abis.
